Freestyle dance contest entries being accepted

Date Posted: 2011-04-07

It’s all about body language, the dancers say, as they hear music and translate the pulsating sounds and let their emotions run free as they cross their arms, slump their shoulders and shake their limbs.

Freestyle dance is an art where dancers reveal their strength as they entertain themselves while the audience gets involved in watching the rants in 4/4 time, and Saturday’s competition sponsored by Marine Corps Community Services is an opportunity for teams from across Okinawa to strut their stuff as they compete for more than $1,000 in cash and prizes. The 2-on-2 Freestyle Dance Battle is a free event open to anyone over age 18, and participation applications are now being accepted.

The Freestyle Dance Battle takes place at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma’s Thirsty’s Club. Registration for the contest, which gives dancers a chance to demonstrate their strength and endurance, is available by calling MCAS Entertainment at645-5821, or by registering online at www.mccsokinawa.com/entertainment.
