Date Posted: 2011-04-07

A Marine corporal assigned to the Northern Training Area has been arrested on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law on drunk driving, and causing an accident resulting in bodily injury, after being involved in a car crash on Taira, Higashi Village.

Nago Police say the 21-year-old Marine was traveling Highway 331 when he crashed into a mini-car driven by a 29-year-old man from Sedaka, Nago City. They say the Marine swerved into the oncoming traffic after failing to execute a right turn. The Marine was not injured, and the driver of the other vehicle suffered facial injuries.

The Marine, Nago Police investigators say, had 0.15mg alcohol on his breath following the 1 a.m. Saturday accident.

Only an hour later, in a separate incident, Ginowan Police arrested Keegan Kelly on drunk driving charges after apprehending him on Highway 58 in the Isa area of Ginowan City. The 23-year-old soldier was detained by Japanese police.
