Airman charged with killing a fellow airman

Date Posted: 2011-03-31

A U.S. Air Force staff sergeant has been arrested and charged with premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder and obstruction of justice in the February 6th stabbing death of another Air Force non-commissioned officer assigned to Kadena Air Base.

Staff Sergeant Nicholas Cron, who served in the same 733rd Air Mobility Squadron as the man he’s accused of stabbing to death, TSgt Curtis Eccleston, was arrested by Air Force officials following an investigation. He had been held in pre-trial confinement at Kadena Air Base since February 13th, a week after the murder.

Eccleston was found with his neck and throat slashed at his apartment in the Mihama district of Chatan Town. Eccleston’s 32-year-old ex-wife Barbara Keiko Eccleston, a Brazilian-Japanese, had been arrested by Okinawa Police several weeks ago.

Cron, the 18th Air Wing says, provided investigators with information that led to Japanese police fishing from waters in Itoman the knives believed used in the murder attack. The 18th Air Wing says no date has yet been set for Cron’s court martial.
