Date Posted: 2002-12-14

A Taiwan-based computer animation and graphics company SD Animation Co. is spearheading a string of IT businesses planning to set up shop at the new high tech complex now under construction on a landfill area on Awase Bay. The facility is scheduled to be completed by March 2003. According to Okinawa City Mayor Masakazu Nakasone, SD Animation Co. has agreed to set up a production plant capitalized at ¥500 million that will eventually employ 150 people.

Several other companies, including digital content production company Cyricon Studio, software producer Technocraft and game software developer Metro are also scheduled to set up shop. All in all the companies are expected to provide jobs for 450 people by 2005. “This will be a significant boost for IT businesses in Okinawa,” Mayor Nakasone said. SD Animation decided to locate its new production facility in Okinawa in order to take advantage of the state of the art infrastructure the Awase IT complex offers.
