HIS offers cell phone deal for tourists, localsDate Posted: 2011-02-18 The coupon allows cell phone users to access 118 entries on shops, restaurants and rental car companies, a service HIS calls a discount service feature. The cell phone will be able to display neighborhood shops, which use the discount coupon, and allows searches by category, such as restaurants or beauty culture. Besides Okinawa, there are participating stores also in Tokyo, Osaka, Hokkaido and Bangkok. HIS officials say using the coupon does not require entry of personal information, and can be used for free. The service began in December under an Okinawa Prefecture program. It can be used on either regular cell phones or iPhones. Naoto Tomitsuka, chief of the HIS Okinawa Optional Tour Desk, says the coupon is "used not only by tourists, but is for locals, too."
