Golden Kings struggle, pull out a series split

Date Posted: 2011-02-18

The first round of a two-game series with the Saitama Broncos in front of the Okinawa home crowd was a tough match, with the Ryukyu Golden Kings falling by five points.
A day after losing to the Broncos 94-89, Okinawa rallied behind the sharp shooting of Carlos Dixon, who scored 25 points, and Jeff Newton, who added 17, to win 87-82 and make the crowd at Ginowan happy. The Sunday victory boosts the Golden Kings record in the Basketball Japan League to 19-13.
Bronco Kenny Satterfieldユs 23-points and 12 rebounds, along with five assists, pushed Saitama to the Saturday win, but his Sunday 25-point, six-rebound and seven-assist performance wasnユt good enough to save his Broncos, who fall to 13-19.
George Anthony McHenry tallied 21 points in Saturdayユs losing cause, while Jeff Newton racked up 20 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate Carlos Dixon picked up 15 points while Shigeyuki Kinjo scored 12. Poor 3-point shooting thwarted the Golden Kings in their home court effort. The only positive point for Okinawa Saturday was sharply shaving a 16-point fourth quarter lead held by the Broncos, trimming it to a loss by only five.
