Airman admits to killing fellow airman

Date Posted: 2011-02-11

The U.S. Air Force has taken a man in his 20's into custody, suspecting him of murdering 30-year-old Curtis Eccleston in his Chatan Town apartment early this month.

The unidentified suspect has reportedly confessed to Air Force officials that he murdered Eccleston, an Air Force Technical Sergeant assigned to the 733rd Air Mobility Squadron. Eccleston's body was found on the fourth floor apartment floor, not too far from Camp Lester, on February 6th. He had been stabbed in the neck, and an autopsy showed he bled to death.

The apprehension followed a joint investigation by U.S. and Japanese police. Under Status of Forces Agreement rules, the military has the lead in such cases. Police believe Eccleston was killed shortly before dawn Sunday, based upon rigor mortis in the body. Okinawa Police had said at the outset they believed an acquaintance was responsible for Eccleston's death.
