Barbers, beauticians provide free services with CaVa

Date Posted: 2011-02-11

Graduates of Urasoe City's Okinawa International Barber School are taking pride in giving back to the community through Project CaVa, a program to provide barber and beautician services at senior citizen and welfare centers.

It is much more than just offering the services; the graduates, as well as others from Yomitan Village and Kadena Town's Beauty School directors, take their scissors and combs to the customers under a home visiting program. They have adopted the motto: Warm Service Wherever, if people ask, we go and cut their hair."

Barbers and beauticians have been visiting senior citizen facilities since 2003, give hair cuts, washes and permanents, while at the same time performing music for their customers. The owner of a Yomitan Village beauty shop says "This CaVa project work is kind of returning back favors to everybody, and I enjoy it."
