Planes do flyovers at Naha Air FestaDate Posted: 2011-01-21 The Blue Impulse, based at Matsushima Air Base in Miyagi Prefecture, was reportedly told by Naha City officials in advance of the festival that stunt flying such as somersaults or inverted flights were prohibited. The Public Relations Office at Naha Air Base confirmed the reports, saying "we didn't do stunt flying because of the request from Naha City." Instead, the T4 Kawasaki trainers, along with F-15 fighters, flew six times in six-fighter formation in the skies over Naha Airport. Naha City reportedly demanded that aircraft maintenance had to be proper, and the flying done without interfering with the commercial air traffic operations at the joint Naha Air Base = Naha International Airport. The Public Affairs Office explained that "airframe maintenance is done to perfection, and there was no influence or interference to civilian aircraft during take offs and landings. There was no flight permission from the control tower," the spokesman said. |
