JASDF Naha Air Base to host Air FestaDate Posted: 2011-01-14 It's being billed as Air Festa 2010, but don't think the Japan Air Self Defense Forces made a mistake; they didn't. The Air Festa was scheduled for last year, but had to be postponed, and now Naha Air Base is ready to strut its stuff. Base gates open 9 a.m., with opening ceremonies at 9:50 a.m. and entertainment getting under way at 10:30 a.m. with a street magician, Hiroto Tamairi performing. He'll be followed by the Oroku Minami Community Hall Jazz Dance Circle performance. On the tarmac, on display for visitors to ogle, photograph and touch, will be F-15 jet fighters, T-4 Trainer aircraft and P-3C reconnaissance aircraft. There will also be UH-60J, UH-60JA and CH-47J heavy lift helicopters. The Japan Air Self Defense Blue Impulse air acrobatic team from Matsushima Air Base in Miyagi Prefecture will have its Kawasaki T-4 trainers on static display, but there will not be an air show. Live music begins with Natchy belting out the J-pop tunes, followed by Sansana singing Okinawan songs. Nansei Airlines Big Band performs starting at 12:35 p.m., and Yumi caps the live performances with J-pops at 1:20 p.m. A free shuttle bus will operate from the Naha Air Base parking area just inside the gate to the festival site. |
