Yoron Marathon runners' deadline nearsDate Posted: 2011-01-14 It may seem like a long way away, but the registration deadline is Friday, January 21st. Yoron Island Marathon applications are available at Print-21 (FedEx) concession in the Foster Services Mall, Mail Center on the 1st floor of the Kadena BX, and at Japanese Post Offices. Being flexible, the Yoron Island Marathon also accepts payments through Family Mart, the internet, cellular phones and credit cards. The tiny island situated just north of Okinawa's main island is so close it can be seen from Hedo Point on Okinawaﾕs northern tip. Yoron Island has been hosting the full and half marathons since 1992. Registration today is ｴ4,000, or ｴ5,000 if you want to also have a ticket for the march 5th welcome party at Samichiraikan Hall in Yoron Town. The entry fee for the relay event is ｴ15,000. Organizers are allowing seven hours for the 42.195km full marathon and relay marathon, and five hours for the half marathon. The events are limited to 1,500 participants on 20 relay teams. The Queen Coral ferry will run from Naha Port on Saturday, March 5th, at 7 a.m., arriving at Yoron at 11:45 a.m. Ticket cost is ｴ7,790 round trip. From Motobu Port to Yoron, the ｴ5,320 round trip departs at 9:20 a.m. On Monday the 7th, the Queen Coral departs Yoron at 2 p.m., arriving at Motobu at 4:30 p.m. and Naha at 6:40 p.m. Runners and their entourage can stay at the Yoron Resident Association Community Hall for free, but the must bring their own sleeping bags and toiletries.
