Okinawa International Carnival welcomes everyone to have fun

There will be fun and games on the streets of Okinawa City this weekend as the municipality is the host for an international carnival. The two day event, Saturday and Sunday, is sponsored by the Okinawa City Office, Okinawa City Chamber of Commerce, business organizations and civic groups whose aims are to bring together the local and foreign communities, and at the same time to give a boost to the city’s economy.

The weekend festival consists of a variety of cultural and sporting events including colorful parades and kids’ tug of war, mainly on Gate 2 Street, Chuo Park Avenue and Highway 330. The festival will offer all a weekend full of entertainment, food, and activities. The festivities will begin early afternoon and continue until 9 p.m. on both days.

The main venue is the Gate 2 Street. There will be plenty of fun for youngsters on Saturday, starting with some 3 on 3 basketball, followed by a children's "eisa" performance, and finally the giant kid's tug-of-war event which is open to everyone. The international parade takes place on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with over 5,000 participants.
