Kumoji pharmacist robbed at knifepoint

Date Posted: 2011-03-17

An 18-year-old pharmacist got more than a customer’s attention this week as a man walked into her store, brandished a knife and threatened her, then walked away with as much as ¥30,000.

The incident in Naha City’s Kumoji district has police on the lookout for a man believed in his 60’s, 160cm tall, and slender build. He was wearing a dark brown jacket, and had sunglasses. As the robbery was going down, police received a telephone report that “there seems to be a robbery ongoing in the pharmacy”. The pharmacy is located on a busy shopping street, with rows of restaurants and throngs of tourists.

As the man was escaping, a woman restaurant employee saw him. She told police “I saw the man hide a knife in his jacket pocket, and he went past constantly looking over his shoulder.”
