Golden Kings appeal for earthquake victim donations

Date Posted: 2011-03-17

The Ryukyu Golden Kings basketball team is soliciting donations to go for earthquake and tsunami relief.

Okinawa’s Basketball Japan League team is teamed with Aeon Group and Max Value stores to raise funds through the end of March. Assistant Coach Keith Richardson says “During this time of tragedy and loss the Kings family thoughts and prayers are with the victims and all of those affected by earthquake and tsunami in the north east regions of Japan. Our deepest condolences go out all of those who lost loved ones during this tragic event. Also as a franchise of the bj League, the Kings would like to express the deepest sympathy to our cross conference rival team, the Sendai 89ers.”

Ryukyu Golden Kings and Ryukyu Jusco Co., Ltd. will be seeking donations to help earthquake and tsunami victims in northeast Japan. Monetary donations will be accepted in donation boxes located in all AEON and Max Valu stores in Okinawa through March 31. Members of the Kings family, to include players and staff, will be in each of the following stores and will be asking for donations at the scheduled dates and times below:

3/21 Mon 6PM-7PM AEON Haebaru Store
3/23 Wed 7PM-8PM AEON Chatan Store (pending)
3/28 Mon 6PM-7PM MaxValu Ajya Store (pending)
3/30 Wed 6PM-7PM AEON Nago Store (pending)

AEON will match the amount of the raised through March, and donate to the local governments in the affected areas. Because of the difficulty on transporting, sorting and distributing goods, the team and AEON are currently not seeking any goods as a donation. The Ryukyu Golden Kings will set up donations boxes at its home games on March 26th and 27th, when the Kings face the Toyama Grouses, at Kenso GYM, Awase, Okinawa-City.

Club Kings members can donate their C.K. points to the relief fund at our home games on 3/26 and 3/27, Kings Vs. Toyama Grouses, at Kenso GYM, Awase, Okinawa-City.

The team thanks the community “for any contributions you can make as we help our family and friends to get through this very hard time in their lives”.
