Chimudon Festival brings Okinawan culture, traditions alive at Murasakimura

Chimudon Festival is held at Murasakimura in Yomitan village on Mar 19 and 20. The festival offers visitors an excellent opportunity to experience the history, traditional culture and entertainment of the ancient Ryukyu.

The festival program consists of a musical based on a traditional Okinawan story, a talk show by a famous Okinawan actor, history writer and entertainer, a Ryukyu Art exhibition by Chyoutai Yonaha, and much more.

Within the park there are many hands-on attractions and workshops including making Shishi dogs, Ryukyu Glass, Bingata, Bindama, Okinawan andagi donuts, Okinawa soba, T-shirts and sandals.

Advance special seat tickets for the musical and talk show are 2,500 for adults and 1,500 for students. Children under six are free. Arena tickets cost 2,000 for adults and 1,000 for students while children under 6 are free. Tickets at door are 300 more.

Entrance to the Ryukyu Mura, not including the shows, is 500 for adults, \400 for junior high and high school students, and 300 for children.

Advance tickets are available at Murasakimura, FM Yomitan, Mitsukoshi and Ryubo Department Stores in Naha. Okinawa Market and Mail Center in Camp Foster Services Mall has advance application forms for tickets that can be paid at the entrance of the event.

To get to Murasaki-mura drive north from Kadena AB on Hwy 58, turn left towards Torii Station. Continue past Torii Station until you see Nikko Alivila Resort Hotel to the left on the coast. Murasakimura is located a couple of hundred meters south from the resort.
