Chinese cutter observed patrolling by Senkakus

Date Posted: 2011-03-13

A Chinese patrol boat has again been spotted by the Japan Coast Guard plying waters near the Senkaku Islands in southern Okinawa.

The patrol boat was about 44 kilometers northwest of Kuba Island, one of the disputed islands in the Senkaku chain that China maintains doesnt belong to Okinawa.

The ship, identified as the Yuzheng 202, was seen around 8 a.m. just outside Japanese waters in the East China Sea, about 44 km northwest of Kuba Island, one of the islets in the Japan-administered Senkaku group, which is also claimed by China. After two Japan Coast Guard vessels and an JCG aircraft send radio warnings to the Chinese patrol boat to stay clear of Japanese territorial waters, officials say the vessel left the area after about 1 hours.
