Japan Post gets secure planes; can now send large packagesDate Posted: 2010-12-03 The postal system had stopped shipping such packages November 17th at the request of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security because its packages weren’t being sent via aircraft that inspected cargo. Japan Post has now secured space aboard cargo aircraft that undergo thorough security inspections prior to departure. Rival package shipping services Federal Express, United Parcel Service and DHL, all of which have their own aircraft, never stopped accepting packages. The Japan Post says while airmail packages are again being accepted, delivery may take a little longer than usual to stateside destinations due to limited space in contracted cargo aircraft. It says international parcels are also undergoing more stringent security inspections, and that also slows the mail. |
