Two Chinese trawlers warned away after approaching Okinawa waters

Date Posted: 2010-12-02

The same two Chinese fishing patrol boats warned away from Japanese waters less than two weeks ago have returned to positions in the East China Sea, just outside the Japan-administered Senkaku Islands.

The Japan Coast Guard reports the two vessels, the Yuzheng 310 and Yuzheng 201 did not enter Japanese territorial waters after being warned by radio not to do so. The two patrol boats were first observed Sunday morning about 44 kilometers northwest of Taisho Island, one of the Senkaku Islands. The Senkaku Islands are also claimed by Beijing, which calls them the Diaoyu.

A September 7th incident involving two Japan Coast Guard patrol boats and a Chinese fishing trawler has led to a diplomatic row between China and Japan. In the weeks since, China’s been sending fishery patrol vessels to sail the disputed waters, while the Japan Coast Guard has intensified its patrols.
