English Garden is much more than a simple café

Date Posted: 2010-11-26

When the English Garden opened in Naha’s Shintoshin district, the owners’ objective was to provide a ready location for people to gather, share experiences and interface customs and cultures between foreigners and Okinawans.

In order to enhance its efforts, owners of English Garden are organizing their First Anniversary Party on Saturday, Nov. 27 starting at 4 p.m. Besides bringing together people of different backgrounds, the event features live Okinawan music performances and an Okinawan-style dinner. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at door.

The English Garden is looking to the future, when it will host events linking children and families with foreign visitors. The café’s management is even a convenient facilitator for connecting Okinawan families with foreigners wanting to study here.

The café is open Mon-Fri 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Sat. from noon to 10:30 p.m., and Sun. and Japanese holidays from noon to 7 p.m. For more info, call 098-988-3335.
