Miyazato slips to sixth with Mexico LPGA loss

Date Posted: 2010-11-18

Okinawa’s Ai Miyazato saw her chances of climbing back up the Ladies Professional Golf Association – Rolex tour standings were dashed this weekend as she finished the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in sixth place.

Miyazato, who only weeks ago was ranked number one in ladies golf, couldn’t pull out a come-from-behind win at Guadalajara, Mexico, she started the final round only one stroke off the pace and tied for second, but finally ended at 13-under-275, six shots behind the winner, South Korean Kim In Jung. “The only mistakes I made were over those three holes from the fourth, Miyazato said, “but because of what I achieved over the course of the season, I was able to overcome setbacks.”

The loss sent Miyazato tumbling to sixth in the LPGA-Rolex rankings, which she led less than two months ago. Jiyai Shin is now number one, with Suzann Pettersen close behind. American Cristie Kerr is third, with Taiwan’s Yani Tseng fourth. Just ahead of Ai Miyazato is South Korea’s Na Yeon Choi.
