Beaujolais Nouveau wines arrive for parties on 18th

Date Posted: 2010-11-04

The year’s first shipment of Beaujolais Nouveau wines have arrived from France, only a couple weeks ahead of the wine’s international debut on Thursday, November 18th.

The Seamen’s Club Naha is hosting a major Beaujolais Nouveau party that evening to introduce the young wine from France’s Beaujolais region, a celebration first begun in 2001. Tickets are now on sale for the event at the Seamen’s Club, which features heavy hors d’oeuvres and both Beaujolais Nouveau and Beaujolais Nouveau Villages wines. Advance tickets are ¥3,500, or ¥4,000 at the door two weeks from tonight, but Seamen’s Center Director Walt Christiansen says “with only 160 tickets available, and the way sales have been moving, it’s not likely there’ll be any left by the 18th.”

Christiansen says the Beaujolais Nouveau wines, which this year have developed a fruity and balanced flavor, will be served throughout the evening, and a limited number of bottles are available for immediate sale to guests. The French wine vintners say the Beaujolais region had suffered cold and rainy weather through July, but climate bounced back in late August to permit wineries to harvest ideal grapes for the wine. Reservations can be made at DSN 648-7493 or (098) 857-1753.

The Beaujolais Nouveau wines will be available in liquor stores and other outlets across Japan after their introduction on the 18th. Japan’s importing about six million of the 750ml bottles. The Seamen’s Club Naha is located between Naha Military Port and the Okinawa Free Trade Zone on the route to Naha International Airport.
