Golden Kings break losing streak; split with Fukuoka

Date Posted: 2010-11-04

The traveling road show isn’t playing well for the Ryukyu Golden Kings, who struggled to even earn a split with the Rizing Fukuoka in the fledgling Basketball Japan League season.

Okinawa lost Thursday’s match 92-90, then bounced back on the strength of Carlos Dixon’s 20 points and an additional 19 from Anthony McHenry Saturday to win 99-95. The Golden Kings win snaps a four-game losing streak, and puts their record at 2-4.

Shigeyuki Kinjo had 12 points, while Naoto Kosuge and Yasufumi added 11 each, and Jeff Newton tallied nine while hauling in eight rebounds. Fukuoka’s Michael Parker was high scorer with 38 points as the Rizing sets the record at 4-2.

Elsewhere, The Niigata Albirex squeezed past visiting Saitama Broncos 68-67, while the Osaka Evessa made easywork of Shimane Susanoo Magic, 85-66. The Hamamatsu Higashimikawa Phoenix rolled to as two-game sweep over Tokyo’s Apache, with a Sunday 95-89 win. The defending champion Phoenix are now 5-1 on the young season, while Tokyo slides to 1-3.

The Sendai 89ers outdid the Toyama Grouses 82-75, giving the 89ers a 4-2 record, while the Shiga Lakestars outdid the Kyoto Hannaryz 98-89. Expansion teams the Akita Northern Happinets and the Miyazaki Shining Suns squared off in their first-ever meetings, splitting the weekend series. Both teams are now 2-4 on the year.
