Cannabis dealer busted in NahaDate Posted: 2010-11-04 The 45-year-old temporary worker at Nagano Azumino City office was nailed by a task force from Kyushu Police Public Welfare Station and the Okinawa Drug Control Branch. Yasumasa Kitamura is accused of selling 30 grams of cannabis to a 38-year-old man in Naha City on July 6th, and picking up a ¥105,000 ($1,329) payment for the transaction. He’s also suspected of possessing 4.3 kilograms of cannabis in his Nagano home in August. Police say Kitamura secretly sold the cannabis for ¥3,600 per gram over the past nine years, and selling other 10-gram units totaling 5.7kg over the three years before his arrest. Cops say those transactions netted Kitamura ¥20 million ($253,165). Cannabis is a flowering plant indigenous to Central and Southeast Asia that’s long been used for hemp fiber, for seeds and seed oils, for medicinal purposes and as a recreational drug. The cannabis hemp often produces high levels of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, that gives users a euphoric sense. Cannabis is also used to produce hashish and hash oil. |
