Golden Kings trounced in pair of road losses

Date Posted: 2010-10-28

There was little that Ryukyu Golden Kings coach Dai Oketani could do to put a positive spin on a weekend visit to Kyoto; the Hannaryz thoroughly decimated the Okinawa squad making its first road trip of the young season.

The Golden Kings struggled Saturday, holding the game halfway close before succumbing 85-78. Things got worse on Sunday as the Hannaryz pulled out all the stops, outscoring Ryukyu 28-7 in the third quarter as it rolled to a 19-point blowout, 97-78.

The loss put Okinawa at 1-3 on the season, with Anthony McHenry leading the Golden Kings with 21 points and Abdullahi Kuso scoring 20, while adding ten rebounds. Shigeyuki Kinjo picked up 14 points. The back side of the loss was an injury to Anthony McHenry. “When I was taking an offensive rebound Saturday,” he said, “I suffered a cut that needed five stitches at a Kyoto hospital.” The battered McHenry played taped up, but is listed as questionable for the next start.

Also questionable is Carlos Dixon, who tried playing through the Kyoto series despite a hamstring injury suffered in the season opener against the Takamatsu Five Arrows a week earlier. He removed himself from the court Saturday, saying “I gave up playing because my recovery wasn’t progressing well.”
