Weekend good for younger Miyazato, and bad for the senior

Date Posted: 2010-10-28

Mika Miyazato of Okinawa was smiling in Kuala Lumpur Sunday as her good luck was holding at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia tournament, where she finished in a tie for third.

She shared the slot with Sweden’s Maria Hjorth after closing with a 2-under-69 final round for a 6-under-207 total. Mika finished three strokes behind Juli Inkster, who won the inaugural tournament in Kuala Lumpur. The 21-year-old said she “came up a little short, but went 2 under on the final day,” noting “That’s positive. I’m taking steps forward for my first win on the tour, and I believe I’m almost there.”

Okinawa’s Ai Miyazato didn’t fare so well, falling from the number one position on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Rolex Standings after eight weeks on top. The 25-year-old Miyazato slipped to third, behind Cristie Kerr and South Korean Ji Yai Shin. A quarter-point separates Miyazato from Kerr. The ladies head into action this weekend with the LPGA Hana Bank Championship in Incheon, Korea.
