Special kimono sale next week

Date Posted: 2010-10-07

A bargain sale on traditional Japanese kimonos gets under way next week at the Okinawa Convention Center and on Kadena Air Base.

Tokyo’s Kimono Recycling Shop will be offering the second-hand kimonos at the Kadena Officers Club Friday, October 8th, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday the 9th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A company spokesman says the second-hand kimonos look brand new, adding they’re available both in a vintage or oriental style. The sale is now in its ninth year in Okinawa, and the second on Kadena.

The sale continues Sunday, October 10th, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Okinawa Convention Center Meeting Room A-2, and Monday, October 11th, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wedding Kimonos in Uchikake style start at ¥10,000, while silk kimonos are priced as low as ¥8,000. Children’s kimonos are available starting at ¥4,000 and Obi are being sold at ¥2,000.

Organizers say Visa and MasterCard will be accepted for kimono sales, along with Japanese yen. The used kimonos are all veterans of service in wedding halls and rental shops, with sales prices a fraction of the cost of a new kimono. All kimonos are clean and in excellent condition. Silk kimonos in styles both for married and single women, obi belts for formal dress and town wear, and washable kimonos and accessories will be on sale.
