Rocktoberfest weekend at Torii Beach

Date Posted: 2010-10-07

The beach is ready, and so are the organizers of the 4th annual Rocktoberfest at Torii Beach.

Twenty of Japan’s and Okinawa’s top rock and roll bands, including Tokyo’s high energy rock band Electric Eel Shock and a dozen of Okinawa’s most impressive musical acts, take to the Torii Beach stage Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Gates open at 3 p.m. each day for the festivities, which run from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and include plenty of world-class food, drinks, music and other cool things to see and do.

The best part of Rocktoberfest is that it’s an Open Gate Free Event. Shuttle bus service will be available from the old Yomitan airfield to and from Rocktoberfest beginning each day from 4 p.m. to midnight. Saturday visitors can watch and hangout with the guys from ‘Ride Hot’ BMX shop as they do ground tricks and show off their bikes. On Sunday, there’s be muscle cars and hot rods doing burn outs.

Electric Eel Shock will perform with island heavyweights F.O.D., 8-ball, 2side1BRAIN, Gun Foad, Fake Kingz, and others on Saturday. More is on offer on Sunday, with legendary bands Dave Ralston and Jet on stage, and All Japan Goith is coming back, too.

Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation, which is sponsoring the event, reminds visitors not to drink and drive; taxis and daiko service are expected of those who drink. No personal alcoholic beverages, food, glass, pets or canopies will be allowed on Torii Beach. Guests must be 20 years of age or older to purchase alcohol. More information is available on the MWR websites www.rocktoberfest-japan.com or www.toriimwr.com.
