Mika Miyazato wins first professional titleDate Posted: 2010-10-07 Mika, who plays mostly on the American Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour, outdid herself by becoming the second youngest to win the Japan Women’s Open, winning only a week shy of her 21st birthday. Her fellow Okinawan but no relation, Ai Miyazato, won the title in 2005 when she was 20 years, 105 days old. Mika achieved the feat with a four-under-par 68, finishing with a 12-under 276 at the Otone Country Club in Bando, Ibaraki Prefecture. She’d gone into the final round for a second straight year with a four-stroke lead, but this time she used two birdies on the front nine and three in a row on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes to seal her win. Ai Miyazato, the number one ranked lady golfer in the world for a sixth consecutive weeks, finished ninth, closing with a 74. “I had a sore throat and felt woozy,” said Ai Miyazato, but the 25-year-old star said “I just played hard to keep my Japan LPGA tour card. Miki Saiki was second with a 69, while Japanese tour money leader Ahn Sun Ju wrapped the final round’s low score with 67 to finish third. |
