Equally impressive is that Okinawa holds the Japan title for most babies born, with Okinawa women averaging 1.79 kids, compared to the Japan average of 1.37. Okinawa’s held that distinction for 35 years. On the other side of the coin, Okinawa saw 9,932 citizens die last year, an increase of 431 over 2008. Still, the death rate is the lowest in Japan. Okinawa’s an island of love, and oftentimes the ending of love. Okinawa ranks second in Japan for marriages, but is rated the worst in the nation for divorces. Officials say an Okinawa couple divorces every 2 hours 52 minutes. |
