Blue Lagoon Festival emphasizes coral protectionDate Posted: 2010-09-23 ![]() ![]() ![]() The 6th annual Blue Lagoon Festival is a music, art and marine activities fundraising event to enhance public awareness of the dangers to the environment. The festival opens at noon Saturday and runs to 9 p.m. with an array of activities and live entertainment. Advance tickets are ¥3,000, available at Lawson convenience stores, Ticket Record 81839. Tickets at the gate are ¥3,500, but only if any left from advance sales. Hideyuki Maeda takes to the stage at 2:40 p.m. Saturday. Other groups performing include Spinna B-ill/, keelson, Higashida Tomohiro, keyco Majestics, The No, Problem’s, Kiyosaku, Mongol 800+ Eiten+Atushi+Peace 45 with Radicalites, and Pokket04. Activities include sea kayak and Sabani riders costing ¥500 for a half-hour ride, a massage room and baby care room, with massages costing ¥1,000 for ten minutes. Massages being offered are foot and hand reflexology, body care, and face and head therapy. There’s also art objects being made with sand. Organizers are dedicated to curbing environmental and water pollution that has coral dying off in Okinawa waters. Coral transplants and eradication of poison starfish are among the efforts to clean up local waters. They are looking for local charitable and civic groups to join with them and become involved in protection Okinawa’s waters, a key element of the island’s growing tourism trade.
