American GI arrested after assaulting cop

Date Posted: 2010-09-23

A 28-year-old U.S. Air Force officer has been arrested after first striking a taxi, then attacking a police officer who tried to calm him.

Police say Captain Aaron Wares is under arrest, charged with suspicion of obstructing a policeman in the performance of his official duties. Officers say they were called to the Sunabe area of Chatan Town shortly after midnight Sunday after receiving a report that “an American looking guy is hitting a taxi. Please come.” Police arrived on the scene so quickly, they were able to see Wares still in the act of striking the taxi while screaming and appearing out of control.

They say Wares was drunk as they approached him and asked him to “Please calm down now.” Wares became angry at police and struck a police officer in the face with his fist. At the police station, Wares admitted to being drunk and told officers “I don’t remember at all.”
