International entertainment heads weekend FosterfestBy: By Bill Charles Date Posted: 2010-09-23 ![]() ![]() ![]() The two-day event running Saturday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. aboard Camp Foster is open to the Okinawa community. It’s the highlight of summer festivals that delights revelers with its free top-notch entertainment, game booths, amusement rides, Kiddie Land for children, and enough cultural foods to appease the heartiest appetite. Admission is free and open to everyone on the island. The Foster Festival offers something for all ages, including live bands this year performing a variety of musical genres. Topping the entertainment list is the Tamancyu Hiroto juggling show, Zampa Ufujishi Daiko, followed by Street Dance Okinawa, and includes Clown Kotora Show, Chijinshu Wakatida Okinawa Eisa & Shi-shi, Tiare Heipua Tahitian dance group, Top Shelf Rock & Blues Band. There’s also be Hip-Hop dance by Lil’ Force, rock dance with Cawa Winners, Triple Monkey break dance, Flare Stack Rock & House dance, Churros rock & pop dance, and T-da Kids Hip-Hop dance. Saturday’s lineup starts with Give Away at 4:30 p.m., and Tamancyu Hiroto at 5:45 p.m. Zampa Ufujishi Daiko performs at 6:45 p.m., Street Dance Okinawa at 8 p.m. and Brown Inc. at 9:15 p.m. On Sunday, Give Away kicks it of at 3 p.m., followed by Clown Kotora Show. Tamancyu Hiroto makes a return appearance on stage at 4:10 p.m., Chijinshu Wakatida at 5 p.m., and Tiare Heipua at 5:45 p.m. The evening entertainment begins with Top Shelf rock & blues band at 6:45 p.m., a group of groups performing hip-hop, rock, and break dance starting at 8 p.m. Brown Inc. variety band wraps it all up at 9 p.m. This year’s festival also features an array of foods including a few MCCS originals such as Jumbo Turkey Legs, ¼, ½, ¾ and 1-pound Happy Burgers, freshly-baked Mamma Mia’s Pizza, Texas BBQ beef and pork sandwiches ( ¼ and ½ pound versions), as well as Nathan’s Famous 6” and foot-long hot dogs. Local favorites such as yakitori, yakisoba and more will be available both days. Festival-goers may make purchases in either U.S. dollars or Japanese yen. A favorite of MCCS festival-goers over the years has been the giveaways and prizes, and this year is no exception. A few lucky guests will win several big prizes, with round-trip tickets for two to one of six United Airlines USA destinations at stake.
