Black Music Day tribute set by soul bars, clubs

It’s being billed as Black Music Day, a once-a-year event expected to attract up to 500 for a long evening of classic soul music at Club Lounge SaicoLo in Naha City’s Makishi district.

Advance tickets for the party being hosted by O Jee, Soul Talkin’, Black Harlem, Chocolate Milk and Thyme are ¥3,000. Tickets at the door Sunday evening are ¥3,500. Advance tickets are on sale at Thyme on the second floor at 1-2-10 Chuo in Okinawa City, (098) 939-4300, and at Jiggy’s on the second floor at 2-20-7 Uechi in Okinawa City, (098) 9788-0978. The entry fee includes awamori and soft drinks.

Featured entertainers are Ryu-Unit, which includes former Da Pump members Yukinari Tamaki and Ken Okamoto, and Ai Kawamitsu, formerly of Lilai. There’s also to be a Jams Brown Tribute from Tokyo.
