Three people are dead in Okinawa water accidents

September’s proving to be a dangerous time in waters off Okinawa beaches, with drowning claiming the lives of three individuals.

A 68-year-old diver died in Ishigaki City’s Kawahira area. The Tokyo woman, Kazuko Kikuchi died while in off shore waters. The Coast Guard office responded to a call from a diving instructor, and transported the woman to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Drowning is suspected, although an investigation is still under way.

In Uruma City near Sea Road, reports of “someone floating on the ocean” turned out to be the body of a 49-year-old Naha City man. Investigators say the man had been participating in a beach party a day before his body was found. Nobody had seen him leave the group and enter the water.

In Yomitan, the body of a man was found on the beach. An autopsy concluded the man had drowned while swimming at Takashiho Beach.
