Jumbo Steak Han's opens in Mihama Depot Island

Date Posted: 2010-09-09

Terrific steaks at reasonable prices are the driving philosophy for Hisae Agarie, the manager of the newly opened Jumbo Steak Hans in Depot Island complex at Chatan Town’s Mihama entertainment district.

That philosophy is the driving force behind the opening of Han’s fifth restaurant in only three years, the first being in Naha City, before expansion to Ishigaki, Matsuyama and Moon Terrace. Agarie and her staff have taken full responsibility for transforming the interior of the new restaurant on the 2nd floor at Depot’s Island into a fine dining experience where the focus is on the food.

Agarie’s team has designed and developed the interior of the restaurant to give it a unique ambience. Each item was hand picked, or hand made by the staff at Han’s, be it the lighting fixtures made of vine bottles, or distinct floor painting.

The popular lunch menu features a half-pound steak—that’s 225 grams—or a jumbo 300-gram juicy jumbo hamburger, or a 450-gram chicken sandwich for ¥1,000. The lunch menu includes soup, salad and rice buffet, with an option to include a drinks bar for an additional ¥200.

It gets even better in the evening, as Jumbo Steak Han’s showcases its very special one-pound jumbo steak (450 grams); it’s ¥1,980 as a stand-alone, or ¥2,330 as a set menu. Another taste treat is the Ishigaki beef sirloin, with 200 grams served for ¥5,980, while the Ishigaki hamburger, also 200 grams, selling for ¥2,100. The Han’s Mega Hamburgers are ¥1,180 and the Mega Cheeseburger ¥1,280. Manager Hisae Agarie explains tenderness is the principal reason for the steaks’ popularity at Han’s, but says the special homemade sauces, variety of toppings that include garlic butter, garlic chips, garlic paste, minced garlic and wasabi, as well as Japanese citrus sauce, are all influencing factors.

Han’s is a fantastic steakhouse, but recognizes everyone’s not into the beef, so it has a diverse menu that includes pork, fish and chips, and pizza, to cite a few things off the menu. The Aguu Pork Steak is ¥2,180. As part of the Jumbo Steak Han’s grand opening in Mihama this month, the restaurant is offering a “100-gram coupon” to all Japan Update readers; simply bring the newspaper along to dinner and get an extra 100 grams of Aussie beef with any steak set menu, absolutely free. Han’s also has a stamp card, so when you collect 10 points you get a half-size 225-gram steak, a ¥1,830 value, also free.

Han’s is open daily 11 a.m. ~ 3 p.m. for luncheon service, and 3 p.m. ~ midnight for dinner, with last orders accepted at 11:30 p.m. The restaurant accepts both U.S. dollars and Japanese yen. Reservations are available at (098) 926-2888.
