Mihama announces plans for Halloween costume contest

Date Posted: 2010-09-09

Ghosts and goblins—not to mention a host of other Halloween ghouls who come out this time of year—are again being offered an opportunity to show off as Chatan Mihama American Village announces plans for another Halloween costume competition.

A year ago, 363 participants competed in the 4th Annual Halloween Festival, with the costume contest the core event. Competition again will be divided into children up to age 12, as well as a category for teens and those beyond their teen years. The Halloween Mihama 2010 Costume Contest and the Halloween Festival are sponsored by the Mihama American Village Tenants and the Chatan Mihama American Village Jigyosha Kai as a cultural exchange event between Okinawa and the United States.

Teruo Okuhara, chairman of the Chatan Mihama American Village Jigyosha Kai, has extended a participation invitation to the entire U.S. military community, saying “all are welcome for the festival itself, and for the costume contest,” which has prizes at stake. Mihama American Villages shops and stores join in the October 31st festivities with sales, discounts, freebies and trick-or-treat activities for the kids.
