Festivals ready to roll after weather postponements

Date Posted: 2010-09-09

Typhoon Kompasu and Tropical Storm Malou are already distant memories as everyone on Okinawa makes ready for a second try at the Orion Beer Festival, All Okinawa Eisa Festival and the Kinser Fest.

All three festivals will go on Saturday and Sunday, September 11th and 12th. Typhoon Kompasu last Tuesday made everything soggy, and Tropical Storm Malou led into the weekend, sending organizers scurrying to make adjustments. The weather prognosticators have promised to be cooperative this weekend, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures forecast around 31C.

Kinser Fest takes place 1 p.m. ~ 10 p.m. both days. Marine Corps Community Services, the event sponsor, says the entertainment schedules have been modified, but assure festival-goers the event is well worth the visit.

The 55th All Okinawa Eisa Festival and the Orion Beer Festival will operate Saturday and Sunday starting at 4 p.m. Organizers say most of the entertainment and other scheduled activities are pretty close to what was originally on tap. The Koza Sightseeing Association, one of the organizers selling seating tickets for the main grandstand, is giving it another try, too. Tickets for special seats are •2,000 in advance, while advance arena seats are •1,200. Single day side grandstand seating is available for •1,000. The Koza Sightseeing Association says people who canít attend this weekend, and who would like their money refunded for tickets bought for last weekend, should return them to the same shop they were purchased at.
