Parking lot operators near airport in hot competition

Date Posted: 2003-01-17

Private parking lots in the Naha International Airport area are challenging the airport-owned parking facility for business. There are several privately owned lots which, because of their numbers, are generating stiff competition for customers while offering special services as well as cheaper fees.

Several of the privately owned lots feature less expensive prices than the facility adjacent to the airport. One private lot even has a pet hotel where customers can leave their pet while on trip.

The cost of overnight parking on these lots varies between 1,000 - 1,300, about half the price charged by the airport parking lots. Private lots typically operate from 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week, and provide free transportation between the airport and their parking lot. Staff members with cellular phones or radios communicate between the parking area and airport.

A satisfied customer said that the parking operators provide a much needed service. I live in Urasoe City and travel frequently to other parts of the country. I usually leave my car here for three days a time, and its still cheaper than use a taxi that would cost me about 4,500 total. The parking costs only 3,000 - 3,500, and besides that, I can go straight to the office and dont need to go first home to pick up my car. Some parking operators are also offering frequent customer discount tickets to attract regular customers.
