MCCS Tsunami SCUBA Centers Recognized with PADI Awards

Date Posted: 2010-08-19

MCCS Tsunami SCUBA Centers on Camp Courtney, Camp Hansen and Camp Kinser have been recognized by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, or PADI, with prestigious 15-Year Service Awards as PADI Dive Centers.

All three centers have been PADI-certified dive center since 1995, while the flagship Tsunami SCUBA Center on Camp Foster has been in operation for a few years longer. “These 15-Year Service Awards are significant milestones and achievements for MCCS,” notes Tsunami SCUBA Program Manager Bob Zimmerman. “In an industry where far too many dive shops open and close in popular diving destinations, very few stand the test of time while meeting the rigorous levels of quality control and instruction excellence required to achieve PADI-certified status.”

A certified instructor since 1992, a course director since 1997 and the only SOFA-status PADI Course Instructor on Okinawa, Zimmerman has been instrumental in establishing and building the instruction and quality assurance program at Tsunami SCUBA, which is the only PADI IDC 5-Star Facility throughout Marine Corps Community Services worldwide.

PADI divers carry the most respected and sought after scuba credentials in the world, and the PADI system of diver education assures that PADI professionals worldwide deliver PADI courses in a consistent and standardized manner, yet adapted to the unique needs and the requirements of different local diving environments. With more than 130,000 PADI professionals, there are around 5,300 PADI dive centers and resorts operating in 180 countries and territories.
