Date Posted: 2002-11-24

An Okinawa City sponsored arts & crafts air will be held this weekend, Friday through Sunday in Korinza Mall and Chuo Park Avenue area. The fair features arts & crafts displays in the first floor of the Korinza Mall, Eisa performances, “Do-it-Yourself” corner and awamori tasting on Parumira Street and live music and street performances along Chuo Park Avenue.

Chuo Park Avenue will also be lined with 85 booths selling every imaginable food and crafts at bargain prices. Musicians and street performers from mainland and Okinawa will show their skills throughout the fair. There are also several displays where visitors can try their own hand at various traditional crafts.

Organizers say that the fair is the first of its kind. Handicrafts on display and sale include pottery, bamboo craft, woodcarvings and much more, all made within Okinawa City. There is also a display of arts & crafts from mainland Japan that offers a unique opportunity to see the difference between traditional Okinawan works and those produced in the mainland. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all three days.
