ANA adds new dimension to pleasurable flights

Date Posted: 2010-07-15

Teamwork by All Nippon Airways and a leading Japanese ice machine maker will offer flyers new opportunities for beer consumption on its flights beginning next Tuesday.

All ANA flights will begin serving draft beer, the first airline in the world to offer it in the skies. Hoshizaki Electric Co. has developed a new beer dispenser that uses carbon dioxide gas vaporized from dry ice to power the mini beer kegs. Airlines are prohibited from bringing high-pressure gas cylinders used in beer dispensers onto planes due to safety concerns and regulations.

The airline says the company will offer the service mainly on routes linking Okinawa with other parts of Japan, with a 400 milliliter glass of beer and snacks priced at 1,000. Initially, only 20-40 glasses of beer will be offered per flight.
