E-commerce in bloom on Okinawa pt. 2

Date Posted: 2002-11-24

Okinawa Market (www.okinawamarket.com)

Okinawa Market is a brand new website that just opened for business this week! If you're looking for Okinawan goods this is a great place to look. The website currently has over 150 items available and is extremely easy to use. It's pages are broken into several categories making shopping as simple as possible. Categories include awamori, shisa, folk crafts, sanshin, specialties, and health foods.

The awamori section has twenty items available ranging in price from $4.30 up to $50. Now, no matter where you are in the world, you can try Okinawa's original alcoholic beverage without breaking your budget. Shisa are small lion-like statues believed to ward off evil spirits. They are often placed at the gate of a house. The shisa section has eighteen on display ranging in price from $3.75 for a mini-shisa charm up to $37.50 for a more intricate artistic roof shisa. The sanshin section has two types of sanshin for sale--both for $250. The specialties section has many original Okinawan snacks and candies for sale including delicious chinsukou, Okinawan donuts, brown sugar candy, manjou, and fruit candies. Finally, the health foods section has several types of tea available including goya (bitter melon), aloe, guava, and hibiscus, as well as several other healthy items such as shiquasa juice and golden 999.

No matter what you're looking for, Okinawa Market probably either has it or can get it. If you're currently on Okinawa, Okinawa's shop is located in the middle of Chuo Park Avenue near Kadena Air Base. However, if you are currently on deployment or no longer living on Okinawa, now you finally have a means to get your favorite Okinawan snacks, teas, awamori, and other items. If you are living on Okinawa, you no longer have to leave your house to get what you're looking for.

Also, the website has been designed in English and Japanese. The Japanese side of the site was finished months ago, but before now there was no simple way for the English speaking community to order Okinawan items from the internet. In fact, unless you can read Japanese fluently, it would be nearly impossible to order Okinawan goods from any website! Now, things are different.

Placing an order is very, very simple. Go to Okinawa Market's website at www.okinawamarket.com. Next, choose the type of item you are looking for by clicking on the navigation bar. Then, after finding the item you're looking for, specify the quantity you'd like to order and click the "order" button. Your item will then be added to a shopping cart and you can either continue shopping or finish your order. All orders are handled by 2CheckOut.com, a secure online payment program similar to PayPal except for you don't have to sign up for anything to make a payment. After clicking the "order" button, you will be given the choice to pay by credit card or digital check. After filling out a simple form, your order is complete and your items will be shipped soon after.

Okinawa Market's website also has discount coupons available for 10% off. You can use them by printing them off and taking them to the shop in Chuo Park Avenue. Also, if you don't see what you're looking for on the website, send an email to yuriko@okinawamarket.com and ask about the product you have in mind. This will certainly be a leading website in Okinawa's e-commerce sector. It is certainly an asset to anyone looking for hard to find Okinawan goods, especially those no longer on island. Be sure to check out their website at www.okinawamarket.com.
