Schwab launching summer military festivals season

Date Posted: 2010-05-28

A modern rock band, entertainment for everyone from one to 100 of age, and a variety of foods is in store for visitors this Saturday and Sunday as Camp Schwab unveils the military’s summer of festivals.

The Camp Schwab Festival, Schwab Fest, opens its doors Saturday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and again Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. outside the Beachhead. The 2010 Schwab Fest is open to both SOFA personnel and local nationals, with free shuttle buses providing transportation to and from designated parking lots on Camp Schwab. A daiko taxi service will also be available.

Headlining on center stage will be Lit, a rock bad formed in 1990 in Orange County, California. Years of sellout gigs around California under their belts brings Lit and front man A. Jay Poppoff, along with his guitarist and brother Jeremy, bassist Kevin Baldes and drummer Nathan Walker to their first performance on Okinawa. From their debut album Tripping the Light Fantastic, Lit got itself into the musical mainstream with a string of hits including My Own Worst Enemy, Zip-lock and Miserable before jumping on the tour circuit.

Lit has performed on the 2000 Vans’ Warped Tour. The band will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, after being introduced by variety band RO4 at 6:30 p.m. Sunday’s entertainment includes Claverio Belly Dance show at 5:15 p.m., the Tahitian dance group Tiare Heipua at 6 p.m., with performances by Southern Rock band Kentucky Rain at 7 p.m. and RO4 at 9:30 p.m.

Marine Corps Community Services organizers advise that pets, outside alcohol, coolers and bottles are not allowed at Schwab Fest.
