Golden Week tourism jumps for Okinawa

Okinawa tourism jumped 13.5% during Golden Week April 29th ~ May 4th, as compared with a year earlier.

A report issued by five airline companies serving Okinawa—Japan Air Lines, All Nippon Airlines, Japan Transocean Air, Ryukyu Air Commuter and Skymark—showed 378,173 people traveled to Okinawa during the holiday period. Japan Air Lines reported its passenger service increased 13.7% while ANA registered a 10.4% rise in travelers. JTA was up 11.2%, and Skymark recorded an 80.6% passenger increase. Only RAC reported a decrease, 4.3%.

Okinawa’s a popular holiday destination for tourists. Only the route from Fukuoka to Naha reported a decline in travelers, 4.8%. Officials note that the actual tourism figures are higher, because no input was provided by international airlines, including China Air Lines and Asiana.
