Three houses targets of arson

Date Posted: 2002-11-15

Police and Naha Fire Department are investigating three suspicious fires that broke out in Naha City Tuesday. The first fire broke out in a residential house near Naha Port. The house owner who was visiting the harbor terminal on business noticed flames rising from his house and called the Fire Department on his cell phone. The firemen put off the fire in a few minutes. After the fire they found a bundle of pamphlet next to the wall where the fire obviously had started that lead them to suspect an arson attempt.

45 minutes later another fire was reported about two kilometers away from the site of the first fire. The flames were doused quickly and there were little damage to the property. Again 45 minutes later a third fire started in a house four to five kilometers from the site of the previous fires. A residential house was severely damaged, but no one was injured. Investigators suspect that the same person deliberately set all three fires. No suspect has been apprehended yet and the investigation continues.
