Now’s the time to introduce mom to Okinawa’s beauty, history and culture with three books signed by the people who created them.

For the first time, graphic novelist Kenshin Shinzato will sign his award-winning bilingual manga Habu Hunter on Saturday at the AAFES Bookmark located inside the Kadena BX. The 63-year-old Naha City native, who first published “Okinawa: The Decisive Battle” in 1973, has created additional Okinawa-themed manga. Shinzato will be signing the new book from 1 p.m. ~ 4 p.m. Habu Hunter is based on an epic struggle between an elderly World War II veteran and a phantom white habu. He originally published the story in Ryukyu Shimpo in 1982, but has redesigned it this year to include an English translation.

Customers can also have a copy of The Best of Okinawa Living autographed by Photographer John Burgreen; Writer/Managing Editor and Photographer Mike Daley, as well as Art Director and Photographer Henry Ortega. The talented group will be at the Kadena BX on May 1st, 1 p.m. ~ 4 p.m., and at the Camp Foster PX signing copies 1 p.m. ~ 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 2nd. The Best of Okinawa Living is an Okinawa Living magazine compilation that introduces readers to the islands of Japan’s southernmost prefecture.

Finally, take time to meet Shokyu Otsuka, a photographer for the Spirit of Okinawa, the pictorial illustrating life in the Ryukyu Archipelago. Otsuka will be at the Kadena BX Saturday, May 8th, from 1 p.m. ~ 4 p.m., and at the Foster PX Sunday, May 9th, from 1 p.m. ~ 4 p.m. The three books are all available for sale at select AAFES locations island-wide.
