Outer islands market opens Saturday in Tomigusuku

Date Posted: 2010-04-29

A new store catering to Okinawa’s home grown and created products is opening this weekend at the Tomigusuku City Outlet Mall.

The Okinawa Prefecture Antenna Shop is the newest entry into the outlet mall, bringing more than 1,500 industrial goods, products, foods and restaurants from Okinawa’s 22 outer islands. The shop was developed with Okinawa Prefecture’s own special subsidy funds, Hometown Workers Measure Reform Fund. The new shop’s operations are being managed by Ocean Twenty Company.

“Everybody is welcome to see the countryside archipelago products, and experience the story of small island life,” said a store official describing the new shop on the outlet mall’s second floor. “There are many very special hand crafted goods from the tiny islands,” he says, “and many of those will give you fun.”

Itoman and Tomigusuku Cities have worked closely in recent years to attract customers to newly created amusement parks, farmers’ markets, a road station, resort hotels and restaurants, and a fresh fish market. The area’s transformation began with opening of the Ashibinaa Outlet Mall in Tomigusuku City a decade ago.
