With all 18 landowners having signed the contract with a development consortium called KSP, project managers are busy negotiating with potential tenants for the new skyscrapers. So far some 20 companies have reportedly expressed interest, including a Microsof-related software company and a call center. Okinawa Electric Co., Ryukyu Oil and Ryukyu Credit Bank are said to be interested. KSP officials have also scheduled a meeting with area residents for the end of Nov. to explain the project in detail and answer possible questions.

The plans call for constructing several buildings at the site. All would have 20 to 30 floors. There will also be underground shopping malls and parking. The first phase of the work is carrying a price tag of •3.7 billion. The construction is scheduled to begin in 2004, and be complete in 2008. There are altogether six similar projects in the works.
