Date Posted: 2010-03-25

It’s promising to be a musically-filled three days as more than 200 local and international artists bring their musical talents to a series of live stages as part of Musix 2010 – Okinawa International Asia Music Festival wraps up a month-long gig.

Gate 2 Street will be closed to traffic for the Sunday finale at Music Town and two other outdoor stages, and it’s much the same on Naha City’s ‘Main Street’ Kokusai Street. The music is crossing borders of genre and nations, leading to the musical extravaganzas name Musix meaning a musical crossing point. Okinawa’s governor, Hirokazu Nakaima, has addressed the world inviting musicians and visitors, extending an Okinawa Uchinankai welcome, and recommending more interest in the varieties of rock, pop and Okinawa folk on this “Okinawa, the Island of Music.”

The Musix is literally everywhere, with the core being Kokusai Street in Naha City and Music Town in Okinawa city. Other indoor sites are Namura Hall in the Namura Plaza Building in Matsuyama, D-set Café in the Takara Building in Makishi, Bantar House in Makishi, Live House Mo-Ashibi Chakra in Makishi, Sakurazaka Central in Makishi, Palette Civic Theater in Palette Kumoji, Naha City, Sakurazaka Theater halls A & B in Makishi, and Live House Shimauta in the Okinawaya Building in Makishi.

Outdoor stages have performances this weekend at Kenminhiroba in Izumizaki, Makishi Stage in Makishi Park, Tenbus Stage in Makishi, Matsuo Stage in Matsuo Pocket Park, Kumoji Spot in front of Okashi Goten in Matsuo, Naha, Ichigin Spot in Ichigin Dori Intersection in Matsuo, Naha, and Mutsumi Spot in front of Mutsumi-Bashi Bridge in Makishi.

A complete listing of Musix activities, along with prices and times, is found at http://www.japanupdate.com/?p=topic&topic=even.
