Bus company apologizes for driver striking, killing boy

Date Posted: 2010-03-18

The seven-year-old schoolboy died last June 22nd after being struck by a bus on Route 331 in Nanjo City’s Sashiki area, and the bus company has now apologized for its driver’s action.

The boy, Kosei Chinen, was riding his bicycle along the road about 5:15 p.m. when the bus struck the boy’s bicycle from behind, running him over with a tire, killing him. “Our son Kosei loved to play baseball,” his father and mother recall, “so we bought a glove and bat and bag for a Christmas present. Even though he’s not here, his spirit is still with us. Time,” they say, “has just stopped.”

The bus company driver has been fired, and disciplinary action taken, but the Chinen family says nothing can atone for their son’s death. They still offer foods daily at an altar.
